I always wanted to paint Finrod meeting Bëor and his people, but since there's quite a lot of wonderful art with him playing the harp, I decided to draw what happened a little after that. I know this Finrod turned out looking ridiculously young, but I wanted him to contrast with the mortals. It's my first time drawing edain, and it was rather fun doing the seven stages of men. The little boy in the middle is Bëor's son Baran, and the baby chomping on Finrod's hair is Belen. (Um, I made them all way younger than they should have been for no better reason than they're just cute this way. But if you like, Baran can be the chappie holding the staff on the right.)
The right hand had a relapse of tenosynovitis, so this was done wearing a wrist and thumb support and with padding wrapped around my stylus. It worked pretty well and didn't hurt as long as I kept my wrist in neutral!

Impressive. I am fascinated by the treatment you gave to this painting. The light that shines and radiates from Finrod's face illuminates everyone around. As he tells tales of Aman, of the Valars and the trees of light he plays his harp to some deep ancient elven tune from across the sea. The rapt expressions of adults,
children and dogs give an idea of the impression that Felagund must have had before the eyes of the Atani: One close to that of an incarnated celestial spirit. The detail of the baby sucking a lock of the elf's hair is the intimate and familiar touch that must have prevailed in that encounter. Home. Wonderful achievement, I congratulate you.
